R.I. DISTRICT 3260 - EVOLUTION & STATUS Rotary came to India in the year 1919 when the first Rotary Club was organized at Calcutta. After a gap of the ten years, in the year 1929, Rotary Clubs were organized in Bombay, Delhi & Madrass. The growth was very slow until 1933 when Rotary Club of Amritsar was formed. Since then there was steady growth of Rotary and by the year 1947-47, there were 71 clubs in different states of India. It all started as District 89 in 1936-37 consisting of undivided India, Burma, Ceylon & Afganistan. The number of the district revised to 88 in 1939-40, to 90 in 1942-43, to 53 in 1949-50 and to 325 in 1954-55 without any change in territory.

Justice Harihar Mohapatra of Orissa and Shri Rajendra Singh were District Governors of Dist. 325 during 1967-68 and 1968-69 respectively. In 1965-66 East Pakistan was excluded and our district was numbered as 326 in 1970-71 consisting of Bihar, Orissa & East Madhya Pradesh. The R.I. Board of Directors decided to regroup the R.I. Districts of India with effect from 1.7.1984. As a result our district was bifurcated into District 325 which includes Clubs in Bihar only and District 326 to include Clubs in Orissa, Chhattisgarh and Eastern part of Madhya Pradesh. There were 51 Clubs in this newly formed District 326. In 1991-92 this district was numbered as 3260 without any change in territory. Rtn. Dr. K.S.N. Rao was its 1st Governor. After formation of Chhattisgarh State, this district 3260 comprised Orissa, Chhattisgarh and Eastern part of Madhya Pradesh. Then. Presently the District has 117 Rotary Clubs with a membership of 3459 Rotarians as on 10th September 2009 as per Rotary International Record.
